We made a special trip to Barnes and Noble today in Westlake to pick up the 2024 Phil Steele College Football Preview Magazine.
In it, Kent State is picked to finish tied for 10th in the MAC, along with Buffalo and Akron.
Chrishon McCray is a 1st Team Wide Receiver along with place kicker Andrew Glass.
Luke Floriea is named a 2nd Team punt returner and Gus Goodell is 2nd Team as a long snapper.
Running Back Ky Thomas and Floriea are on the 3rd Team for running back and receiver respectively, while Dallas Branch is 3rd Team at cornerback.
Offensive linemen Cameron Golden is 4th Team, along with Stephen Daley and Khalib Johns on the defensive side of the ball.
Unit wise, Kent State’s special teams ranked the highest of any other unit they had, coming in fourth in the MAC.
“This is now year two for Coach Burns and naturally he has a vastly more experienced team with 9 starters back on offense and they are in the second year of his systems. Kent State rates a Stock Market indicator of +5.0, made the Going Up Box for both offensive and defensive YPP and are +28 All Conference points retuning, all signs pointing up and they are now #97 on my experience chart. While they are improved with Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Penn State in non-conference play they don’t make my most improved list.”
BURNS UNFILTERED: Kenni Burns was recently a guest on Unfiltered by 247 Sports. It’s a great look into some of the insight of Burns, the program and the recruiting process they use. “Real is Rare” and it’s worth the time of any Kent State fan to listen to.
RIVALS #2: Kent State’s 2025 recruiting class that currently stands at 12 prospects currently is ranked #2 in the MAC by Rivals, to Toledo.
