Kent State guards Reggie Bass and LA Hayes entered the transfer portal today, according to Verbal Commits.
Bass, a 6-3 guard from Muncie, Indiana, played in 29 games during the 2023-2024 season. He averaged 8.2 points per game, and 2.1 rebounds per game in 19 minutes of action. An ultra aggressive offensive player, Bass could carry a team when he was hot, with an ability to make shots from distance and get into the paint. On a team that needed someone to generate fouls this year, Bass was a key in his ability to create contact.
Consistent defensive lapses and poor shot selection led to his lack of minutes in games this season. Bass will be looking for his third program is as many years, as he was the 2023 MAC Freshman of the Year at Central Michigan.
Bass issued a statement on his Instagram page on Wednesday saying, “‘First and foremost I would like to thank the coaches here at Kent. Second I would like to say I’m glad I got to meet the people I did on this university campus and teams wouldn’t been able to do it without yall. But with that being said after talking to my family I have decided to enter the transfer portal”.
Bass didn’t play the last four games of the season due to the bone contusion in his hand. He didn’t dress for the quarterfinal win over Toledo at the MAC Tournament, then he was dressed and in uniform for the Semifinal and Championship game.
Hayes appeared in 14 games for the Golden Flashes this season as a true freshman from Saint Vincent Saint Mary High School. A solid defensive player, Hayes was raw offensively, shooting just 5-21 from the field and 1-12 on 3FG this season.
With the transfer portal opening this week, several notable MAC players have already entered. Central Michigan has five players in the portal already including Derrick Butler, Markus Harding and Aidan Rubio. Western Michigan’s B. Artis White and Seth Hubbard have entered as well as Tyler Cochran from Toledo.
Indiana’s Payton Sparks, the former Ball State big man, is back in the portal after one year in the Big Ten.
In other portal news, former Kent State guard Jeremiah Hernandez entered this week after averaging 17 points this season at Southern Indiana and being named 1st Team All-Ohio Valley Conference.
