Davis in Portal, issues statement

On Friday news broke that Kent State men’s basketball forward Von Cameron Davis was entering the transfer portal, the fourth player since the season ended a week ago to enter the portal. Sunday Davis released a statement on his decision.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank god for the opportunities he has provided for me. I would also like to thank my family for their continued love and support throughout the entirety of my basketball career. To my coaches and teammates, the bond and experiences I have gained here with you all are some of the best of my life. Flash Nation, I cannot thank you all enough for welcoming me into this community with open arms and allowing me to grow and become a part of this special family. The love I have received from my coaches, teammates, administrators, and the community here has been amazing. After much thought and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to enter the portal and explore other options. This decision was not made lightly, and is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to the University of Kent State. To the city of Kent, thank you for your genuine support and love. Flash Nation will forever be in my heart!!

Davis was perhaps the most consistent Golden Flash this season for coach Rob Senderoff. Davis emerged in the MAC Tournament as the focal point for the Golden Flashes, helping lead them to their third straight MAC Championship game appearance, making the All-Tournament team.

Davis is the only Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio to come to Kent State, and just the second all time in the Mid-American Conference. Davis seemed poised to return next season to Kent State and compete for league player of the year, another conference championship and potentially go down as one of the great players under Senderoff.

He joins Jalen Sullinger, Reggie Bass and LA Hayes to join the portal this week. Just a week after the Flashes came up one point short in their quest for back to back NCAA tournament appearances.
