Mid-Major Madness of midmajormadness.com came out with their Mid-American Conference men’s basketball preview yesterday, and in it they pick the Golden Flashes for second place, behind Ohio.
Additionally, VonCameron Davis was chosen as their preseason Player of the Year.
“Davis has shown continued growth in his time at KSU. He was the key reason they made their Cinderella run to the MAC Finals, with huge games in the quarterfinals and finals. An efficient 13.8 points per game,” the preview said.
Davis, who has spent much of his previous seasons bouncing back between the wing and the post, figures to find himself closer to the basket in 2024-2025. Davis did improve his three point percentage by several points last season.
In addition to Ohio and KSU, Bowling Green was picked third, Akron fourth and Toledo fifth followed by Ball State, EMU, Miami, CMU, WMU, Northern Illinois and Buffalo.
Payton Sparks from Ball State was selected as “Newcomer” of the Year, even though he isn’t new to the MAC after starting his career for the Cardinals.
Jaylan Ouwinga from Toledo was chosen as MAC Freshmen of the Year, at 6-9 and a lot of versatility.
The Golden Flashes opened official practice this week as they prepare for their November 4 opener at Louisiana in the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge. The entire schedule was released last week.
