Kent State defensive linemen CJ West and linebacker C.J. Harris announced their intention to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday.
West, the 6-2, 315 pound mountain in the center of the KSU defensive front, had 110 career tackles, 19.5 TFL and 7 sacks. It’s a massive blow for the Flashes, who were expecting the Third team All-MAC performer to come back and be a senior leader, captain and contributor for the Flashes.
Harris, a 6-0, 225-pound linebacker produced 33 total tackles with 6 TFL and 1 pass break up last season. Harris started his career at Arkansas State.
The Flashes will host Kids Day this Saturday at 2:00pm and conclude spring ball with Flash Bowl, set for April 27.
FREEMAN TO PORTAL: Kent State wing Tyem Freeman has entered his name into the transfer portal as of Tuesday morning. The 6-5 Freeman had an extremely up and down single season with the Flashes. The transfer from Central Florida, would go from playing large minutes and producing offense, to disappearing on the bench for games at a time due to inconsistent play. The Flashes by my count, now have one scholarship available.
BASEBALL with BIG week: The Kent State baseball program has a busy week as they head to Penn State tonight. The game is at 5:30pm and will be on BTN+ with a paid subscription. Wednesday the Flashes will try and once and for all to play Ohio State after being rained out multiple times this year with the Buckeyes. It is a “Gold Out” with the first 300 fans receiving gold rally towels. Head Football coach Kenni Burns will throw out the first pitch.
FLEMING’S BIRTHDAY: It’s Kent State men’s basketball assistant Jon Fleming’s birthday today. This article from four years ago does a great job of telling his story from walk on to up and coming coach. Senderoff credits Fleming for coming up with the “formula” to beat #1 seed Toledo in this year’s MAC tournament.
