Kent Grit invites community inside the program

The Kent State football team will resume spring practice on Tuesday after the pause last week for spring break. The Flashes will be on the field twelve times, with the spring ball calendar concluding on April 27 with the second annual Flash Bowl, pitting the Blue vs. the Gold at 6:00pm at Dix Stadium.

While Head Coach Kenni Burns and his staff continue to work on getting all of his players on the same page and making sure everyone is all in, they aren’t the only part of the process that Burns is working on.

“Kent Grit, the T is about togetherness,” Burns said. “And I think togetherness is not just player for player but that’s community, that’s university, that’s everyone, and it’s alignment. I align with the president, the AD,and I think the fans align with our program and where we’re going.”

The Kent Grit football program will be opening the doors of Dix Stadium for the fans more than ever before in spring practice. April 6 is fan appreciation day, followed by student day on April 13. Kids day is set for April 20, followed by the Flash Bowl on April 27. So for the next four Saturdays in April, fans can make plans to head to Dix Stadium to get a sneak peek of the 2024 Flashes.

Burns is excited to get his players and the fans connecting and getting to know each other. It also gives the fans a chance to see the progress being made in the spring.

“I want to open the doors so they can see us constantly progressing and moving in the right direction. Our guys like it. I want them to know our players in and out. We have nothing to hide. We are who we are, we do what we do. I want our fans to come out and really engage with our players and see what our program is all about and make this a community based program. I think that’s really important that you get your community involved and your student body involved.”

    Mike,
Not sure why it’s taken me so long to find Golden Flash Report! There is so little Kent State Sports information out there, so your excellent content is greatly appreciated. Regarding Kent Grit, I wish the Flashes would update their roster, and I would love to see a guess at a depth chart for the coming year. All the best Mike, and keep the info coming.

Thank you Howard I appreciate you! I will be in touch soon with the fans to kind of introduce myself and tell my story and connection to Kent. I kind of hit the ground running with this project and didn’t have time to say hello!

I agree on the roster on the website, very difficult to keep track of who’s in and out.

100% agree on the lack of information. I grew up reading Elton Alexander of the PD, Carducci and Allen Moff in the Record Courier, Stephanie Storm at the ABJ, they all did great jobs!

And the folks at those papers now do a great job! But the information has gotten harder and harder to come by, behind pay walls, etc.

So I just decided to start this project and help give back to the fan base and the programs. I hope you enjoy and thanks for reading!

You’re the man Mike! All those reporter names were awesome. When Allen Moff left the RC that left a big void. I’m enjoying all of the articles and keep the info coming!!
