The Kent State football program “rode the lightning” this weekend to a very successful three days of recruiting visits for the class of 2025, which resulted in six student athletes verbally committing to Kenni Burns and his staff.
The action began late Friday night when Trey Rubinstein, a 6-4, 195 outside linebacker from Napoleon High School pledged his intention to the Flashes.
Saturday night and into Sunday the commitments continued to roll in on social media one after another.
Rafael Terraro is a 6-4, 208 pound athlete who projects at linebacker for the Golden Flashes and is from Emmaus High School in Pennsylvania. He had offers from Maine and Monmouth.
Anthony Jeffery is a 5-8, 190 pound running back from Thomson, Georgia and won a state championship last year for Thomson High School. Jeffery also had an offer from Central Michigan.
BuddyRow Garrer is a 5-10, 180 pound receiver from Evans High School in Georgia. Garrer had offers from Marshall, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, and others. Garrer summed up his weekend as this:
“The origin behind G.R.I.T. is phenomenal. GRIT is just not a word here at Kent State, it’s a lifestyle, a lifestyle I want to be a part of. The atmosphere and energy here is insane. I’m here to bring some juice and excitement to the team. I want to show them I want to be here rather than just saying it. I can’t wait!”
Maurice Stephens may end up being the crown jewel of the class. A 6-2, 175-pound receiver from Ballard High School in Louisville, Kentucky, Stephens joins the KentGRIT family over offers from Akron, Miami, Central Michigan, Marshall and others.
Derrick Jackson III committed Sunday from Cass Tech in Detroit. A 6-0, 185-pound safety from the Motor City, Jackson picks the Flashes over offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo and others. “I decided on Kent because it was the best opportunity for me and because I know that Coach Burns is leading the program in the right direction. They plan to play me at safety, and I will bring hard hitting and ball hawking to the table and well as high IQ,” Jackson said.
Rubinstein, Terraro, Jeffery, Garrer, Stephens and Jackson join Nolan Good, Bryce Griffin, Teaunn Hunter and TaRyan Martin as verbal commits in the class of 2025.
ICYMI: Several game times were released by the league last week. The Flashes open the season August 31 at Pittsburgh at 12:00pm in a game that will be televised nationally by ESPNU. Week two Kent opens the home slate against Saint Francis at 2:30pm on ESPN+. In week three Kent State heads to Knoxville to take on Tennessee at 7:45pm on the SEC Network.
