The Kent State men’s basketball program got a commitment on Tuesday night from Anthony Morales, a 6-8, 195 pound forward from Boston University of the Patriot League.
Morales averaged 10.9 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 blocks per game and shot 38% from the 3 point line during the 2023-2024 season. Morales eases the expected loss of Von Cameron Davis and the graduation of Chris Payton in the front court, while also giving Head Coach Rob Senderoff a potential stretch four man.
Morales was in class Tuesday evening when I caught up with him.
“Kent State has a rich history of success and the coaches really showed me that I was a priority,” Morales said. “I will say that I will bring an unselfish attitude to the team and will do anything the team needs me to do to win. We also emphasized the importance of continuing the legacy that those before me at Kent State have set in place.”
Morales prides himself on his versatility and what he can bring to the Golden Flash program. Coming from the Patriot League, Morales was looking for a program that had great player development and found it with Senderoff and his staff.
Morales feels like the staff has confidence in him to play his game in the MAC. “I was able to build a relationship with the staff and I felt as if they felt as confident in me as I am in myself. That’s always been a big thing for me, when I feel that that my coaches and teammates have confidence in me I am able to be myself and prosper.”
The Boston native, a two time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, is looking forward to his last year of eligibility and helping the Flashes get back to the NCAA Tournament.
“Our expectation is to win the MAC. If we come together as one and play for one another everything will work itself out and we will all have success this upcoming year.”
